In June of 2008, a full-time dental hygienist was added to the dental team to provide cleanings and sealants 2 days a week at the school sites and 2 days a week at the RKM Dental Clinic. Dr. Town's Tips for Healthy Teeth
"Eating Sweets throughout the day lowers the pH level in your mouth and promotes tooth decay," according to Dr. Adam Town. If you are going to indulge in your love for sweets, brush your teeth as soon as possible. Chewing sugar-free gum helps prevent tooth decay by increasing the salivary flow, which helps wash away the acids in the mouth that help break down food. This is especially true for children. The chewing action also helps you scrub away some of the unwanted plaque left on teeth after eating. This is not a substitute for brushing and flossing but does help when one is unable to brush after meals. Don't forget to get regular check-ups and cleanings. The ADA recommends check-ups at least once every six months.
